Innovation through acquisitions and investments

In 2017 alone AccorHotels have made 3 acquisitions, having already completed 2 the year before. That's on top of multiple investments in the same period. The hospitality business has been rapidly expanding its offerings in the last 18 months, breaking the typical hotel investment behaviour and embracing alternative accommodations. For example, in February AccorHotels acquired Travel Keys, a travel broker with over 5,000 luxury villas available to rent. The investment follows a recent pattern of pushing funding into high quality accommodation: since 2016 AccorHotels have also acquired OneFineStay, and significantly invested in Squarebreak and Oasis.Accorhotels' other acquisitions (VeryChic and Availpro in April this year) demonstrate a multi-strand innovation strategy. VeryChic, a platform for accommodation deals, and Availpro, which offers e-booking software solutions, show a clear focus on driving bookings - and not only for AccorHotels' own properties, but independent hotels too.Having heavily invested in additions to its original hotel business, AccorHotels are demonstrating a clear drive for innovation, leaping towards the next step in the evolution of hotel companies facing disruption from the likes of Airbnb and new startups on the scene.
